Our impact investment portfolio
ACC’s core role is preventing injuries, caring for people who have been injured and then helping them return to work or independence. The objective of our impact funds is two-fold. Improve social or environmental impacts while providing a strong investment return that helps New Zealanders pay less in levies for accident cover.
Health, Safety and Wellbeing Impact Focus
Our Health, Safety and Wellbeing Impact focus combines ACC’s investment management expertise and injury prevention focus.
Learn about the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Impact
Our health, safety and wellbeing investments include the following organisations:
Robotics Plus
Robotics Plus is developing technology designed to keep forestry, agriculture, and transport workers safe. Its innovations include a Robotic Scaling Machine (RSM) that can more quickly and accurately measure the volume of timber on logging trucks, eliminating what is a dangerous manual task at ports, forestry sites and sawmills. Robotics Plus continues to expand into offshore markets.
Groov
Mentemia, now rebranded as Groov, is a digital mental wellbeing platform that helps employers embed a wellbeing-first culture across their organisation, their leaders and their people. Groov was co-founded in 2019 by Sir John Kirwan and serial tech entrepreneur Adam Clark.
Climate Change Impact Focus
With our climate change impact focus, we’re looking for opportunities to increase our collective impact on emissions reductions. These investments are part of our commitment to a measurable reduction in emissions of greenhouse gases and providing leadership on Aotearoa's climate agenda, while achieving strong risk-adjusted returns.
Learn about the Climate Change Impact
Some of the investments in this portfolio include the following organisations:
Leaft Foods
We launched our $100 million Climate Change Impact Fund in December 2021. Our first investment was Leaft Foods, an early-stage business that extracts a protein called Rubisco from green leaf crops and offers farmers a way to diversify away from more carbon-intensive food production. ACC has co-invested with Ngāi Tahu Holdings and Khosla Ventures, the US venture capital firm.
Lodestone Energy
We’ve also invested in Lodestone Energy, a developer of grid-scale solar farms in five locations across Northland, the Coromandel and the Bay of Plenty. The projects will help New Zealand decarbonize its energy sector and meet growing demand particularly from the increased electrification of transport and industry.
